Date invitation builder

By RMH Editorial. Updated .

Write a clear invitation with an activity, a place, and a time. If you want to keep talking or don't want to meet, choose that instead. Edit the wording before copying it. The builder does not send anything or decide whether someone is interested.

Make a plan to meet

Choose where you are with meeting. Add the details you know, or say you would rather wait, have a call, or decline.

Where are you with meeting?
What would you like to do?

Choose a public place you would both be comfortable meeting.

An invitation gives them a choice. If they decline or want more time, respect their answer.

How to ask someone out on a dating app

If you want to meet, make the invitation specific enough to answer. Name an activity and suggest a day. Add a public place if you have one in mind. Leave room for them to suggest a different time or decline. You don't need to wait for a universal message count, and there is no wording that guarantees a yes.

Make the plan easy to understand

A person can answer a concrete invitation without planning the whole date for you. "Would you like to get coffee at Juniper Cafe on Saturday afternoon?" gives them a plan to consider. Juniper Cafe is an example name. Replace it with a real public place you are both comfortable with.

If you haven't settled on a place, ask about the activity first. You don't need to invent a reservation or pretend you know their schedule. Once they agree, confirm the details together.

When you'd rather wait

You can say you want to talk a little longer or suggest a call first. That is enough. If the other person keeps pressing after you've said you aren't ready, you don't need to explain it again.

If they decline, respect their answer. If they say the day doesn't work and offer another time, you can make a new plan together. A decline without an alternative is not an invitation to keep pitching activities.

Keep the conversation going

If you want to keep talking, try the conversation reply builder. For a new match, browse the first message examples. You can also practice with a real person in Mock Chat.

Common questions

What if they say they're busy?

If they offer another time, respond to that suggestion. If they do not, you can leave the invitation with them. You don't need to keep proposing new times until they give you a different answer.
